The dizi is a traditional chinese transverse flute made from bamboo:

The dizi has a very distinctive, bright, buzzy sound due to an extra hole between the fingering and blowing holes. This hole is covered by a very thin membrane made from bamboo, called a dimo, which resonates when the flute is played:
